He attended country school and Manson High School. On December 28, 1938, he was united in marriage to Bernice Warnke at St. Paul's parsonage in Manson, Iowa.
Pete was employed at B&B Super Service in Manson then moved to Swea City, IA, operating a DX farm gas delivery service from 1942 to 1943. Pete returned to Manson to work at B&B Super Service until entering the US Army. he served honorably in the European theater and was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded in action. When he returned to Manson in 1945, he purchased a service station renaming it Pete's Mobil Service. In 1962, he sold the station and worked for the next eight years for the town of Manson. He then began work for H&W Lumber in Palmer where he worked until his retirement.
On Thursday, January 9, 2003, Pete died at the Manson Good Samaritan Center. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernice Helen Warnke Peterson in 1992; his eldest son, Delbert, in 1966; his youngest son, Joel, in 1987; one sister Beulah in infancy; two brothers, Merle and Walter.
Pete is survived by daughters, Jolene Brudevold, New hampton, IA, Judy Beckley and husband Bert, Fort Dodge, IA; sons, Denny Peterson, Fort Dodge, IA, Bob Peterson and special friend, Elaine Morgan, Boone, NC, Chuck Peterson and wife, Cindy, Fort Dodge, IA; daughter-in-law, Linda Hansen and husband Dave, Papillion, NE; brother, Harold and wife Evelyn Peterson, Humboldt, IA; 19 grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 16 step great-grandchildren; and, seven step great-great-grandchildren.
