Funeral services for Paul Kirby, 12 year old son of Haskell & Floy (Abbe) Kirby of Goodland, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Enochs Church of Christ. George Calvert of Lubbock and Earl Allen of Littlefield will officiate at the services.
Burial will be in Morton Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Rix Funeral Home of Lubbock.
The youth was killed about 5 p.m. Wednesday when he apparently fell from his horse, became entangled in a rope tied to the saddle and was dragged for some distance.
His seventh grade classmates at Three Way School will serve as honorary pallbearers and flower girls. Jerry Hutton and Steve Snodgrass also will be honorary pallbearers.
Active pallbearers will be Horace Hutton, J.G. Arnn, Dan St.Clair, Lawrence Fox, Cass Stegall and Buddy Warren.
The youth's body was found by his father after the horse returned to the Kirby home. Joe D. Vaugh, Muleshoe justice of the peace, conducted an inquest and returned a verdict of accidental death following an investigation by Sheriff Hugh Freeman and Joe Hodge. Survivors include his parents, a brother Reuel, of the home; a sister Mrs. John Weaver of Lubbock; his grandfather J. M. Abbe of Goodland. The youth had lived near here all his life.
