IN AVON - Mrs. Esta T. Meekins Gray, 89, died December 16 at 3:03 a.m. in the Albemarle Hospital after a short illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Avon Assembly of God Church by the Rev. David Raynor, pastor, and the Rev. Rufus Butner, pastor of the Avon United Methodist Church. Burial was in the family cemetery in Avon. Mrs. Gray was a native and life-long resident of Avon and a charter member of the Avon Assembly of God Church.

She was the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Mrs. Mary Christian Scarborough Meekins and wife of the late Clemmie C. Gray.

Surviving are two daughters: Mrs. Blanch Williams of Beaufort and Mrs. Rena Dawson of Hampton, Va.; four sons: Oscar Gray, George Gray, Norman Gray, all of Avon, and Carl Gray of Norfolk; 27 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

Twiford's Island Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
