WILLIAM D. FOX
William Dickerson Fox was born in Knox county, Tenn., on March 1st, 1854, and died at his home in Pawnee county on July 30th, 1913, aged 59 years, 4 months and 29 days.
Funeral services were held from the home in Walnut township on Saturday, August 2nd. The services were in charge of the I. O. O. F., and the sermon was preached by Rev. C. E. Brown of the Larned circuit. Interment was in Larned cemetery.
The deceased was married to Maggie S. McClellan in Knox county, Tenn. on Nov. 2nd, 1876. To this union ten children were born, all but one of whom, together with his wife, survive him. The children are: Chas. P. of Bartlesville, Okla., Wm. W. of Kingman, and Harry J., Fred S., Elsie E., Jabob R., Margaret G., Walter M. and Robert E.., all of this county.
W. D. Fox and family moved from Tennessee to Pawnee county, Kansas, in 1882, locating on the same quarter of land where he died. During the 90's he served as county commissioner from his district for two terms. He was a successful farmer and was highly respected in the community. He was one of the well-to-do farmers of the county, and had been vice president of the First State Bank of Larned for a number of years.
His health had been poor for serveral years, and he made several trips to different parts of the country in the hopes of benefiting his health. The cause of death was cancer of the stomach.
