Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant Major in the US Army in the 4th US Colored Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action at Chapin's Farm, Virginia on September 29, 1864. His citation reads "Seized the colors, after two color bearers had been shot down, and bore them nobly through the fight."
