Those who attended James' funeral will not soon forget what a grand and touching farewell, to this Irish horseman and farmer, it was! He was dressed in a new plaid, flannel shirt and denim bib overalls. After the Lapeer funeral service, mourners drove to the Hadley Elementary School, where each adult received a bottle of beer, and family members led the group in singing several Irish melodies. Meanwhile, "Muir Brothers" transferred James' body to their antique, horse-drawn hearse, with two of James' beautiful Percheron horses hitched to it. Led by the horses and hearse, the motorcade of family and friends began the procession to "Greenwood Cemetery". After burial services, everyone was served a delicious meal at "Hadley Acres Golf & Country Club", owned by James' daughter and son-in-law, Edna Mae and Walt Sierakowski. There, more Irish music and singing were enjoyed. Indeed, the day was a well-deserved and fitting tribute to a prominent and beloved Metamora farmer and resident!

Many thanks to Maryellen Rogers for the photos she contributed to James' memorial.
