Edina Doctor Dies; Practiced 40 Years
Edina, Mo., Jan 14 – Dr. George Samuel Brown, a practicing physician in Knox county for forty years died in his home here yesterday, at 3 p.m. after a long illness. Hardening of the arteries was the cause of the death which came after two months confinement.
Dr. Brown was born Dec. 23, 1869 in Marion county, Mo., the son of Dr. Lewis and Martha Nickel Brown. He came to Knox county in 1877 and graduated from the public schools here. Later he studied medicine in St. Louis, graduating in 1891. He married Miss Anna Rouner of Edina in 1890.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Frank Cassell, of Edina, two brothers, John Brown of Chicago and Dr. Nickell Brown of Oak Forest, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. J. C. Brown, of Lewistown, Mo.

Death Comes Yesterday From Hardening of Arteries at the Age of 62 Years.
PRACTICE OF FORTY YEARS
Services to be at Home 2 O'clock Friday Afternoon.

Dr. George S. Brown, for forty years a practicing Edina physician, died at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his home here at the age of 62 years. He had been failing the last 3 or 4 years, declining rapidly a few months and seriously ill the last several weeks.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock tomorrow, Friday, afternoon at the home in Edina by the Rev. S. E. Botsford. Burial will be in Linville cemetery.
Surviving Dr. Brown are his widow, a daughter, Martha, Mrs. Frank Cassell, of Edina and a sister and two brothers: Mrs. J. C. Brown of Lewistown, John S. Brown of Chicago and Dr. Nickell F. Brown of Oak Park, Ill.
George Samuel Brown was born in Marion County Dec. 23, 1869, a son of Dr. Lewis S. and Martha A. Nickell Brown. The parents were Northeast Missouri pioneers, Dr. Lewis S. Brown being brought to Palmyra from Virginia by his parents when he was an infant. Mrs. Brown, his wife, was a native of Macon County, Missouri.
The elder Dr. Brown practiced in Marion County until 1877, when he moved to Edina with his family, his son, George, then being about 8 years old.
"Doc George," as Dr. George S. Brown's many friends best knew his, was educated in Edina and graduated from the high school here. He studied medicine in the College of Physicians and Surgeons in St. Louis, from which he graduated in 1891.
Following his graduation Dr. Brown practiced medicine in Edina with his father until the latter's death in 1911. He had maintained his practice here continuously until his failing health confined him to his home a few weeks ago, being an active Knox County physician forty years.
He married Miss Anna Rouner of Edina, a daughter of the late Hon. D. A. Rouner, July 8, 1890. To then were born a daughter, Mrs. Cassell, who survives. Dr. Brown was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Edina.
