WASHINGTON TERRACE – Ila Ruth Lucas Swan Archibald, 82, died Thursday, February 25, 2010 in Washington Terrace.

She was born January 1, 1928 in Sidney, New York, a daughter of Edwin Stewart and Esther Louise Kilmer Lucas.

Ila married Stewart Taylor Swan on July 21, 1951 in San Antonio, Texas. They were later divorced. She married Ronald Archibald on December 3, 1977 in the Ogden LDS Temple. Ron preceded her in death on December 20, 1999.

She was raised and educated in Vestal, New York, graduating from Vestal High School. She worked for IBM in New York for several years prior to moving to Utah.

Ila was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served as a Relief Society Teacher, Visiting Teacher, Primary Teacher and Young Women's Leader.

Ila was very active with the Boy Scouts of America and she and her husband Ron earned The Silver Beaver Award for their service. They enjoyed the years they served together and the friendships that were made. She and Ron also enjoyed camping trips with family and friends.

Ila enjoyed family get-togethers, picnics, crafts and decorating for everything!

Surviving are one son and two daughters, Kent (Doris) Swan, Uncasville, CT; Kathy (Gordon) Moses, Lindon, UT; Karen (Keith) Hess, Clinton, UT; two step-daughters, three step-sons, 25 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are one brother, Mark K. (Carol Jean) Lucas, Washington Terrace; and many nieces and nephews.

Ila was preceded in death by her husband Ron, her parents, two brothers, Elwood and Richard Lucas, and her sister, Natalie Lucas Brenner, who passed away just three months ago.

The family expresses special thanks to Dr. Stephen J. Bruce for the care and compassion he gave to our mother, grandmother and sister; Mt. Ogden Rehabilitation Center; and Inspiration Hospice for all their care.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 1, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Myers Mortuary of Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd.

Friends may call at the mortuary on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday 10 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment, Plymouth City Cemetery.
