Hal Randolph Adair of Roy, Utah passed away Tuesday evening, March 2, 2010 at home with his family. He was much loved by his family and friends.

Hal was born on September 14, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to George Randolph Adair and Olga Constance Chandler. He grew up in Salt Lake City, attended East High. Hal joined the Navy in 1943 where he served in the Admiralty Islands. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Hal married Janice Hofheins on February 14, 1947. They had five daughters. Hal worked for the Salt Lake Police Department for 13 years. In 1962, he went to work for the government in the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax Bureau in Seattle, Washington. He returned to the Ogden Police Department in 1963. In 1969 Hal was honored as the Outstanding Police Officer of the Year in Weber County. He was later promoted to Lieutenant as head of the Narcotic and Vice Squad. He retired in 1980.

Hal is survived by his wife, Janice of 63 years, daughters, Janice Adams (Evan) of Layton; Susan Butters (Scott) of Bountiful; Terry Maw of Roy; Karen Hodson of Austin, Texas; and Cindy Hill (Jerry) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 22 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, brothers, Verl (Dick), Vern (Bob) and Mark.

Preceded in death by his parents, brother, Carl Chandler Adair.
