LEWISTOWN - George C. Bowen, 79, a resident of Ohesson Manor, Lewistown, formerly of 5 North Locke Ave., Yeagertown, died at 3:22 p.m. Monday, July 12, 1999, at the manor.

Born Sept. 21, 1919, in Yeagertown, he was the son of the late Harry and Catherine (Tate) Bowen. His wife, Nina J. (Kilmer) Bowen, whom he married April 14, 1941, survives.

Also surviving are: daughters, Mrs. Charles (Sally) Smith, Northport, Ala. and Mrs. Richard (Janet) Eby, Yeagertown; a brother, Bert A. Bowen, Lewistown; a sister, Mrs. Neil (Audrey) Bobb, Yeagertown; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Sheldon Bowen and a sister, Jean Davis.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy in the European and Pacific theatres.

He was a structural iron worker for Bethlehem Steel for 30 years, retiring in 1981.

He was Lutheran by faith; a life member of the Yeagertown Fire Company; a member of VFW Post 7011, Lewistown; a member of the American Legion Logan Guard Post 90, Lewistown; and a member of the Iron Workers Local 401, Philadelphia.

Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville, with the Rev. Clifford R. Miller Jr. officiating. Graveside military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown.

There will be no public viewing.

Family will provide all funeral flowers.
