A memorial service for William Harrison "Harry" Edmonson Sr., 96, of Bridgewater will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bridgewater Church of the Brethren.

The Revs. Robert. E. Alley and B. J. Wampler will conduct the service. Private burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Bridgewater.

Mr. Edmonson died May 19, 1993, at Bridgewater Home, where he had been a resident since June 1991. He was born Aug. 19, 1896, in Woodstock, and was a son of the late Charles Henry and Rebecca "Bettie" Elizabeth Copp Edmonson.

He attended Bridgewater College and graduated from Virginia Tech. He taught agriculture at Buckingham and New Hope high schools before moving to Bridgewater in 1932. He was a milk tester and soil conservationist for the Virginia Department of Soil and Conservation in Shenandoah Valley and James River Valley for 20 years, serving as its director for a number of years.

His hobbies included beekeeping, and he was known as "the Honey Man" in Bridgewater. He was also a farmer, candlemaker and woodworker. Bridgewater Home was built on his farm, and he was one of the organizers of the Bridgewater Home and Retirement Village.

Mr. Edmonson was a member and trustee emeritus of Bridgewater Church of the Brethren. He was a veteran of World War I and a charter member of Bridgewater Ruritan Club.

On June 12, 1923, he married Anna Frances Thomas, who died Nov. 9, 1982. He is survived by two daughters, Gene Elizabeth Edmonson of Bridgewater and Eloise Rebecca Edmonson of Chicago, Ill.; one son, William Harrison Edmonson Jr. of Harrisonburg; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Bridgewater Healthcare Inc., 302 N. Second St., Bridgewater,Va. 22812.
