Barbara F. (Bauguss) Lander, 85, of Great Falls, a homemaker, died of congestive heart failure and kidney failure Tuesday, May 31, at a local care facility.

Barbara was born in South Portland, Maine, on May 21, 1926, to Zeb and Rachel Bauguss. She graduated in 1943 from Thornton Heights High School.

She met a young sailor from Montana in the fall of 1943, and married him - Wesley Lander - "the love of her life," on Sept. 8, 1945, in South Portland. They traveled to Montana in the winter of 1946, making Great Falls their home for more than 65 years. Here they raised two sons, Larry, who was born in 1948, and Jim, who was born in 1950.

Barb was a wonderful homemaker for her husband and two sons. She took great pride in keeping an extremely clean and organized home. At times, that was really quite a job, with Wes having a large shop in the base-ment.

She loved to cook amazing meals, especially during the holidays for family gatherings. She enjoyed baking and there was always a fresh cake or chocolate-drop cookies waiting. She truly loved her family and close friends, and had greatly missed her life partner, Wes, since his passing in 2001.

She and her family enjoyed fishing, camping, and collecting antiques and glassware. She loved gardening and canning, and also grew gorgeous peonies and roses. In her later years, she grew to love reading, with her little dog Angel by her side.

She is survived by her 2 sons, 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Lander, on April 8, 2001; her parents; and sisters Anna Ray and Grace Greenlaw.
