Sister Marie Loretella CSC, 87, of Saint Mary's Convent died at 5:20 a.m. today in the convent after a lengthy illness. She was born Estelle Marie Hoffman on March 22, 1893 in Grand Rapids, Mich. and entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross on Sept. 1, 1915. She was received as a novice on Dec. 10, 1915 and professed her vows on Dec. 10, 1917. She was a graduate of Western State Normal School in Kalamazoo, St. Mary's College, and received a masters form the University of Notre Dame. She also studied at Catholic University of San Rafael, Calif. She taught school for many years serving in elementary education at St. Mary's, Notre Dame, and St. Joseph Grade School in South Bend. She taught also at St. Mary's College, Notre Dame, St. Mary of the Wasatch, Salt Lake City, Utah; Cardinal Cushing College, Brookline, Mass.; and Dunbarton College of Holy Cross, Washington DC. She also served in the administrative capacity of Councilor and Director of Education at St. Mary's, becoming assistant superior in 1968, a position she held until her retirement to the convent in 1972.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Loretto Church, with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, on the campus. Friends may call until 10 a.m. Saturday in the convent parlors, where a wake will be observed at 7 p.m. Friday.
