Funeral Service for Gladys (Reiman) German, 71, of Sisseton, SD, was held on Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD, with Lay Minister Raymond LaVoie officiating. Pallbearers were Wayne G. Lentsch, Brad Lekness, Chad Lekness, Duane Wooley, Robin Wooley, and Gary Martenson. Honorary Pallbearers were "All of Glady's Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren". Interment was in the Sisseton Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday, May 18, 2004 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, and one hour prior to services at the church. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
Gladys Reiman was born on February 8, 1933 to John and Mary (Martin) Reiman of rural New Effington, SD. She was the youngest of seven children. In the summer of 1933 her family moved to rural Minnesota Lake, MN, where her mother passed away in August of 1934 of tetanus.
She later returned to the Hammer, SD, area with her family in 1946. In 1954, she moved to Morris, MN, where she worked at the Red Dot Cafe and The Friendly Inn Tavern and other restaurants and taverns. In 1971, she moved to Sisseton where she worked at Abby's Tavern and Melvin's Cafe. On December 27, 1972 she married Alan German and continued to live in the Sisseton area until her untimely death on May 16, 2004 at Meritcare Hospital, Fargo, ND, of lung cancer.
Gladys is survived by her husband, Allan German of Sisseton, SD; two daughters, Delta (Wayne) Lentsch of rural Sisseton, SD, and Johna (Jeff) Birchem of Riceville, IA; one son, Trent (Bobbi) German of Sisseton, SD; twelve grandchildren, Wayne Lentsch of Sioux Falls, SD, Franki Marie Steltzer of Lake Park, MN, Christina Lentsch of St. Charles, IA, Jacob, Jeremy, Justin and Jared Birchem all of Riceville, IA, and Amber, Thomas, Travis, Ashlee, and Trey German all of Sisseton, SD; three great-grandchildren, Haillee, Dillon, and Kassidee Steltzer all of Lake Park, MN; one brother, Lewis Reiman of Utica, MN; two sisters, Ada Reiman of rural New Effington, SD, and Bernice Reese of Ortonville, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Phyllis Walters; and two brothers, Morris Reiman and Gabriel Reiman in infancy.
