PGA Golfer. Bert Yancey was one of the game's premier players with seven tour victories during the mid 1960s to early 70s. In thirteen seasons, he won $688,124 in prize money. Throughout his professional career, Bert Yancey succeeded despite having to fight the greatest handicap a golfer could know, a medical illness that affected the vital funcion of his brain--the ability to concentrate. He died during a Senior PGA tournament in Park City, Utah, on August 26, 1994. He suffered a heart attack just minutes before he was to play the first round of the Franklin Quest Championship. Bert Yancey will be forever remembered with an inscrpition on a 4.5 ton granite slab at the Park Meadows Golf Club in Park City: "Bert Yancey was a tanacious champion with unusual courage, determination, wit and wisdom. As a true professional, he exemplified persistence through hardship. He had an undying passion for preserving the history and integrity of golf. His quest for excellence remained remarkably intensed and focused as he executed his final shot from this area."
