Dr. Hamff Dies; Emory Ex-Professor
Dr. Christian Frederick Hamff, 79. of 490 Emory Cir., NE, who until his retirement 11 years ago was chairman of the German department at Emory University, died Thursday of a heart attack on the campus of LaGrange College. He was an instructor there.
Dr. Hamff, a native of Paige Tex., attended Southwestern University in Texas, and did graduate work at the University of the South, University of Lleipzig and the University of California. He was a member of the Carl Schurz Foundation and a past president of the South Atlantic Modern Language Association. He had been chairman of the German Department 32 years.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Dr. L. Harvey Hamff, Atlanta, and Christian F. Hamff Jr., Birmingham; daughter, Miss Elizabeth Hamff, Atlanta; sister, Mrs Anna Behrens, Houston, Tex., and brother, Albert Hamff, Kingsville, Texas.
