son of George Stroud JUSTIS and Violet (PRICE) SAVORY JUSTIS

m: Clinton, MO to Bessie Leona CORUM

Valley Justis, 608 South Carter Street, received fatal injuries when he fell in front of a 4-horse disc at the farm of his father, George Justis, southwest of Clinton Friday afternoon. He was found unconscious, suffering from a skull fracture and other injuries at about 2:30 and died at 6 o'clock at the Clinton General Hospital. Valley Justis, who is married and has two children was an employee of the Larabee Mill, being a "mixer" and extra trucker, and was a hard worker, who often helped at other work in his spare time. Friday afternoon he went to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Justis, who live southwest of Clinton on the Jarrett Farm across the Deepwater Bridge on the Martinville Road. George Justis operates the M. K. & T. pumping station on Grand River a short distance away, and was at this station when the fatal accident occurred. Valley Justis was driving three horses and a mule hitched to a large disc in a field south of the house, which is some distance from the road. When two of the horses, apparently broke lose from the harness and came back to the house, Jesse Justis, a younger brother of Valley Justis, went to the field to see what was the trouble. He found his brother unconscious and clearly critically injured. The alarm was given and the unconscious man put in a car and hurried to the Clinton General Hospital. This was between 2:30 and 3 o'clock. Apparently he had fallen or been thrown in front of the disc and this frightened the horses. He suffered a fractured skull and severe injuries on the chin and one arm was badly lacerated, and there were other injuries. His death came at about 6 o'clock. Valley Justis was 24 years of age, a man well liked and respected. He was honest and dependable, a hard worker who sincerity of purpose and principle gained for him the respect of his friends and neighbors. He is survived by his wife and two children, Wayne, 6, and Shirley, 3. His wife was formerly Miss Bessie Corum, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Corum. Other survivors are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. George S. Justis, of southwest of Clinton, and the following: Jesse Lee Justis, of Clinton, a brother; Miss Dollie Justis, of Clinton, sister; Mrs. Lottie Funk, Springfield, half sister; Mrs. Elmer Hayse, Clinton, half sister; Ernest Savory, Clinton, half brother; Dennis Savory, Belleville, Ills., half brother. The Consalus-Peck funeral home on Sunday afternoon was filled with saddened relatives and friends of the late Valley Justis, who came to show their final tribute of love and respect to his departure. The floral tributes were lovely. Rev. A. S. Olsen officiated. Rev. Olsen and son Paul with Mrs. Olsen at the piano rendered the music. The pall bearers were: Hughen Hudgens, Fred Suse, Grover Harrison Jr., Cecil Hudgens, Jack Woodard and Raymond Hewitt. The body was laid to rest in Englewood Cemetery.
