Martial Arts Actor. Lo Lieh was born in Indonesia to Cantonese parents. He excelled in martial arts early in life, and in 1962 joined the Shaw Brothers theater group in Hong Kong. By the end of the decade he was one of Asia's premier martial arts actors, preceding Bruce Lee. He went on to appear in over 100 films, usually as diabolical villians, sort of the Christopher Walken of Hong Kong kung-fu cinema. Despite this, he is perhaps best known to American audiences as the righteous karate student Chao Chi Hao in the 1972 classic "Five Fingers of Death." Some other films of his are "36th Chamber of Shaolin" (1978), "Born Invincible" (1978), and "Fist of the White Lotus" (1980), which he also directed. Lo moved more into directing in the 1980's, and remained an active player in Hong Kong cinema and television until his retirement in 1999.
