Actress in England and America in the 19th century, the great-granddaughter of the famous actress Sarah Siddons. Born in India, she made her debut in Nottingham, England as Lady Macbeth. At the age of 16, she went to England to complete her education, and for a time she was also at school in Germany. She was preparing to go on stage, when she married Chanter, a naval officer. Her first appearances in America as a reader from Shakespeare and other poets, in Boston, Providence and New York in 1867-68, excited much attention. Her first efforts as an actress in America, were made under the direction of Augustin Daly, who was a journalist and playwright. In Boston and New York, at the old New York Theatre, she appeared as Rosalind and Viola. She died aged 52 years.
