Roger Lauren Behr, "Deacon Behr, "was born on April 9, 1943, in Chambersburg Penn. He entered the U.S Coast Guard and served 4 1/2 years. After being discharged from the Coast Guard he joined the Galveston Police Department and served three years.
Roger married his wife, Sandra, on May 18, 1968. They had three children: Roger "Glenn," Tammy Kay and Bryan Jason. They moved to the Austin area and Roger joined the Austin Police Department and was commissioned in 1973. Roger retired from the police department in 2000. During his years in the department, Roger was called by God to the Diaconate Program and was ordained in July 1984. In July of 2009 he celebrated 25 years as a Deacon. Roger was the Commander of the Pagosa Springs American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra K. Behr; daughter Tammy Akers, and her husband Patrick; son, Bryan Behr, and his wife, Michelle; brothers Kevin Behr, and Jan Behr and his wife, Lilly; siste,r Pam Sanderson; grandchildren Ashleigh and Samantha Akers, Harrison and Hillary Behr; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son Roger "Glenn" Behr, and his parents, Roger and Marjorie Behr
A Vigil Service was held Wednesday, Aug. 26, at John Paul II Catholic Church.
Mass:11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at John Paul II Catholic Church.
An Honor Guard Service will follow the Mass.

Deacon Behr was born on April 9, 1943, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Earned his Eagle Scout, one of his proudest accomplishments, and has always enjoyed the outdoors doing such things as camping, fishing, and hunting.
Entered the U.S Coast Guard and served 4 and 1/2 years. After being discharged from the Coast Guard he joined the Galveston Police Department and served three years.
Married his wife Sandra on May 18, 1968. They had three children, Roger "Glenn", Tammy Kay, and Bryan Jason. Moved to Austin in 1972 and joined the Austin Police Department.
Roger was called by God to the Diaconate Program and Ordained July 1984. He served Sacred Heart Parish in countless ways. While on the Police force he also served as Chaplain. Roger retired from the Police Department in 2000. From there he and Sandra moved to Pagosa Springs, CO, where he served and extensively helped dedicate their new Church, John Paul II.
One thing he will always be remembered for is his giving nature and volunteering to even the smallest of causes. In July of 2009 he celebrated 25 years as a Deacon. Roger was the Commander of the Pagosa Springs American Legion. Roger was fun loving and a bit of a prankster. He always had a way to make you laugh with his dry sense of humor. We will really miss being able to go to him for answers.
He was a father figure to so many young men and women in addition to his children and four grandchildren. Mostly he will be missed for being such a faithful loving husband, father, and friend. Survived by wife, Sandra K.
