Actress, Singer. She is remembered as a longtime star of the Norwegian stage and screen. Raised within the theatrical milieu, she got her professional start at around five singing with her father's jazz band. Solvi joined the Monn Keys in 1948 and was to sing with them at increasingly important venues such as Chat Noir before joining Der Norske Teatret in the mid 1950s. She made her silver screen bow in 1953's comedy "The Bridal Bouquet" and was to have another dozen or so feature film appearances over the years. As the leading lady of The Norwegian Theatre for a quarter century she starred in pieces by her husband Egil Monn-Iversen, as well as in standard works including "West Side Story", "The King and I", and "Annie Get Your Gun". During the 1960s Solvi earned international praise on such television productions as "The London Palladium", "That's Entertainment", and the "Ed Sullivan Show"; though only 59 and still in good voice she retired after portraying Golde in a 1987 production of "Fiddler on the Roof". At her death she left a legacy of about 20 albums recorded throughout her career.
