2 Platoon
A Company
The Highlanders
4th Battalion
The Royal Regiment of Scotland
British Army
He was deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.
Cpl Pike was killed when his unit came under fire from rifles and rocket propelled grenades while on a security patrol with Afghan National Police in the the Pupalzay area of Lashkar Gah District of Helmand province. He fired back on the enemy and his colleagues praised his quick reaction which allowed them time to move out of danger.
Aged 26, he was born near Okehampton, Devon and lived in Huntly, Scotland as a child. Cpl Pike joined the army in 2002 and served in Iraq in 2006 and Afghanistan in 2009. He sailed through his Section Commander's Battle Course and qualified as a Physical Training Instructor in 2007. Described as a tough field soldier, he was one of the brightest stars in the battalion. A role model to his soldiers and a marvellous leader, he was due to be posted to train the next generation of recruits at the end of his tour. Hugely popular, he had a razor sharp sense of humour and was a natural practical joker. His battalion is based in Fallingbostel and he spoke nearly fluent German.
Cpl Pike leaves behind his wife Ida, their children Joshua and Evelynn, other family and many friends. His wife said, "My husband would want everybody to know that he died doing a job he loved and that he loved our children with all his heart and soul".
Funeral will full military honours was held on June 21, 2011 at All Saints Parish Church, Merton, North Devon, followed by private cremation.
