--4th of 5 children of Moses Blackwelder & wife Rachel Fisher
--Confederate Veteran; he served in Company A, 52nd NC Infantry. He was captured on 14 October 1863 at Bristoe Station, VA and held POW at Old Capitol Prison and later Point Lookout, Maryland until he was exchanged on 20 February 1865.
--Occupation: Farmer. Wood chopper in his later years.
--He married Mrs. Esther Clementine Hartsell Smith, a Confederate widow, on January 3, 1866. They had 7 children:
Franklin Jethro (died at age 2), Florence Elora, Edmond Perry, Vernina Lanova, Charlie Henry, Milas Avery, & Joselyn (died infancy) Blackwelder.
--Cause of death: pneumonia
