Maletha was the daughter of Alfred Crabtree and Eliza Horn Crabtree. She was born in McNairy County, TN. She married Thomas H. Smith on Dec. 10, 1868 in McNairy County, TN. They traveled in a wagon train to Kaufman County sometime between 1877-1879. Her children were William Wesley, James Thomas, John J., Joseph Cay, Robert Andrew, Boss, Henry Harrison and Susie Martha. All the children are also buried at Cottonwood except for John and Henry. The burial place of Thomas is unknown. He died while visiting family out of state.
