Haskell Marvin Vandiver was born at the 3575th USAF Hospital, Vance AFB, Enid, Oklahoma on 29 March 1954 to Haskell Vandiver and Phyllis (DeBock) Vandiver.

He graduated Azle High School (Azle, TX) in May 1972 and enlisted in the U.S. Army a few months later.

Haskell was killed 18 June 1973 in an accidental shooting while serving as a Nike Hercules Missile Crewmen with D Battery, 2/1 Air Defense Artillery in Dichtelbach, West Germany.
