James Robert "Doxie" Evans was born March 15, 1873, in Grand Prairie, Tarrant County, Texas, to George Willis Evans and Caroline Anna Henington. James stood 5ft. 10in. tall, had brown eyes, dark hair and a light complexion.

He was married to Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" Emery on August 13, 1893, in Arlington, Dallas County, Texas. They had seven children. In 1900, he was a stock farmer in Foard County, Texas.

James was a stock farmer in Meadow, Terry County, Texas. He enlisted in the Texas Rangers as a LOYALTY RANGER on June 15, 1918 thru February 1919. He had lived in Lynn County, Texas and in 1930 lived in Hockley County, Texas.
