Johnson Jr, Bobby Ray Bobby Ray Johnson Jr, 60, of Athens, TX, passed away May 28, 2011. Born to Bobby Ray Johnson Sr. and Betty McBride Johnson on Dec. 30, 1950 in Dallas, he grew up in Balch Springs.
At only 17 he enlisted in the Army and served two tours of duty in Vietnam, first in the Fourth Infantry Division and later as a door gunner in the "Ghost Riders" of the 189th Assault Helicopter Co., for which he received the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service.
Survivors are son Kristian Johnson and wife Hope of Las Vegas, Nevada; granddaughter Ellie Johnson of Las Vegas; mother Betty Johnson Griesing of Athens; sister Linda Johnson Garrett and husband Larry of Coppell.
Preceding him in death were his father and his brother David Johnson.
Memorial service at Laurel Oaks Funeral Home in Mesquite, Texas, on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 2 p.m.
