Tailor's Funeral Scheduled Friday

Nelson Abbey, 69, Spokane tailor and 50-year resident, died yesterday in a Spokane hospital. His home formerly was at W3301 Alice.

For 40 years, Mr. Abbey was in partnership with Howard Pearson in Spic and Span Cleaners, doing the tailoring work.

Mr. Abbey, born in Jefferson City, Mo., would have been 70 Oct. 1. His wife, Clarice M., died June 26, 1969.

Surviving are a son, Kenneth, Pullman, Wash.; a daughter, Mrs. Beverly Black, Beaverton, Ore.; six grandchildren and several sisters and brothers, including Francis Abbey, Spokane.

Mr. Abbey was a member and past patron of Audubon Park Masonic Lodge 272, Scottish Rite Bodies and Sadir Kahn Grotto. Earlier, he had been a member of the Spokane Gyro Club and the Elks Lodge.

Funeral services will be at 2 Friday at Thornhill-Geraghty & Langbehn's with the Rev. Richard T. Stussi of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church officiating and Scottish Rite Bodies participating. Burial will be in Greenwood with Audubon Park Masonic Lodge participating.

April 10, 2005 - Spoke with the daughter of Nelson Abbey. She confirms that her dad was born in Missouri, that his mother was Gertude M. Burns and that Laura Burns Pettis was his aunt. That Nelson's mother died when he was about 3 years old and that the Burns and Abbey families moved from Missouri to Montana. She also said that Nelson's dad was a Bapitist Minister along with being a rural mail carrier in Hamitlon Montana. She also told me that her Father had Alzheimer's and that her brother has passed away and that he is buried in Greenwood Memorial Terrace. She said that her brother got is first degree from the U of W, than got other degrees at Eugene Oregon, then went to work at WSU.
