The Alliance Review, Dec. 19, 1962: Mrs. Mary W. Allen Burcaw, 73, of The Damascus Rd. died in the Salem City Hospital at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday following an illness of two weeks and a coronary attack.
Born in Salem May 7, 1889, Mrs. Burcaw ws the daughter of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Miller Weingart. Her second husband, Ward Allen, preceded her in death in October of 1940.
A member of the First Friends Church, Mrs. Burcaw was a resident of Salem all her life. She taught Sunday School at the church for 35 years.
Mrs. Burcaw is survived by her husband, Ernest, of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothea Wilson of Salem; a son, Gordon E. Allen of Cleveland; a sister, Mrs. Jacob Maurer of Salem R.D. 1; a brother, John Weingart; one granddaughter and five grandsons.
Funeral services will be held at the First Friends Church Friday at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Harold Winn officiating. Burial will be in the Ellsworth Cemetery. Friends may call at the Arbaugh-Pearce Funeral Home in Salem Thursday from 7-9 p.m.
