In 1871 Brandenburg Prussia was absorbed into the German Empire. A year latter in 1872 Gustav " Guss" Klehm at the age of 4 migrated to the United States with his mother Augusta and stepfather Charles Koch, two sisters Amelia and Clara and one brother George. George was the oldest. Their biological father's name was Otto Klehm. I discovered this by ordering George's death certificate and it was also listed in George's Obituary. Otto Klehm, evently died after the birth of his youngest daughter Clara was borned in 1870. This means that George's father died after 1870 and before they migrated in 1872. His mother remarried to Charles Koch. Koch is a German name, in English it is spelled Cook or Cooke. When I began my research I new the year they migrated but did not know any thing about the rest of his family. The first record I found in the USA was the 1880 census. He was enumerated with his Mother Augusta and step father Charles and brother George and sister Clara. Later I discovered that, his sister Amelia was enumerated with her husband Hugo Swogetinsky and one son Otto. They were the next ones to be counted on the 1880 Census.

While I found a lot of records of George I did not find that many of Guss. I always found him on the census but I could not find any vital records. Even though I researched the county records where he live and the Texas Death Index as well. I did not find that much. I know he married Celia Mahoney in 1896. But I learned that information from the census records. I also know she was a neighbor while they lived in Brenham, Texas.

They were farmers and always rented while living in Waller County in 1900, 1910, 1920, but on the 1930 census the farm was listed as being in Waller, Harris County.

They were listed on the 1930 census but when his wife died on June 10, 1941 she was a widow. So Guss died after 1930 and before June 10,1941.
