Harold Joseph "Hezzie" Geltz, 78, of Willow Hill, died at 3:50 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Saturday at Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton. Funeral services will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Mark Wilkinson officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.
Harold Joseph, better known as "Hezzie," was born January 8, 1933, in Ste. Marie, the son of Albert and Elizabeth "Bessie" (Litzleman) Geltz. He married Ruth Murray on August 11, 1962. She survives.
He had been a farmer and owned and operated Northern Tank Truck Services in Waters, Mich., from 1969 to 1997. He was a member of the Oil Field Association in Michigan and was a member of Willow Hill board. He enjoyed playing cards and fishing.
Hezzie is survived by his wife, Ruth (Murray) Geltz, of Willow Hill; children, Mary Stanham, of Parma, Mich., Deborah Yost, of Willow Hill, and Ray Geltz, of Tucson, Ariz.; brothers, Frank Geltz, of Ste. Marie, Norbert (Irene) Geltz, of Aurora, and Bob Geltz, of Oswego; sisters, Betty (George) Knell, of Warrenville, Evelyn Kocher, of Willow Hill, and Mary K. Berry, of Olney; and five grandchildren, Sarah, Leeanna, Michael, Robert and Ethan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Elizabeth Geltz; sons, Gary Lee and Larry Lee; brother, James Geltz; and a sister, Melba Clayton.
In loving memory of Hezzie, memorials may be made to the family or Crossroads Cancer Center.
