JOHN A STITELY
John Amos "Daddy" Stitely, the oldest resident of the Irwin vicinity died at 9:25 o'clock Monday morning at his home, Fairmont, following a lingering illness. He was 93 years old on September 7. Born in Franklin county on September 7, 1853, he was the son of John H. and Retura Tawny Stitely. He moved to Irwin in 1870.
Mr. Stitely was employed by the Westmoreland Coal company for 53 years and three months, having retired 24 years ago as a master mechanic. Mr. Stitely was the oldest member of the Trinity Lutheran Church congregation at Irwin, and was active in the affairs of the church.
The following children survive: John A. Stitely, Jr., of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Charles W. Stitely, Irwin; James H. Stitely, Fairmont, with whom he made his home; Frank H. Stitely, Irwin; Edward M. Stitely, Fairmont; Mrs. John Hutton, Swissvale; Mrs. Myrtle Frick, Irwin; and Mrs. Berda Ondish, Fairmont. Also surviving are 34 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
Friends will be received at his late home in Fairmont until noon Thursday when the body will lie in state in the Trinity Lutheran Church, from where funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon in charge of his pastor, Rev. Paul N. Schnur. Interment will be in the Irwin Union cemetery.
