Edgar L. Dear, Jr., 88, of Marks, Miss., retired farmer and postal carrier, passed away Friday, May 20, 2011. Graveside services were held May 22 at Marks Cemetery in Marks, Miss. Brother Charles Langford officiated.
Mr. Dear was born in Sledge, Miss. on July 4, 1922., attended MS State College in Starkville, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WWII, 505 Bombarment Gp., 182 Bombardment Squadrop. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sledge where he was a longtime Deacon. He was the owner of Western Auto in Sledge and retired from USPS after 31 years of service.
Mr. Dear is survived by a daughter, Peggy Susan Gaddy (Craig) of Marks; two sons, Edgar Lee Dear, III (YinYin) of Memphis, Tenn. and Walter Kevin Dear (Jennifer) of Senatobia; a sister, Pauline France of Cashiers, N.C.; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey June Wilkiee Dear and a daughter, Melinda Carol Bullard.
Memorials may be sent to Baptist Children's Village in lieu of flowers.
