Mrs. Anna Lyftogt, age 82, of Orange City, passed away Monday, October 16, at the Orange City Hospital.

A memorial service was held on Friday, October
20, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Reformed Church in
Orange City. The Rev. Steven Vander Molen and the Rev. David Sterk officiated. Interment was held prior to the service a* the Newkirk Cemetery, rural Hospers. A prayer service was held on Friday, at 9:15 a.m., at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Anna Wilmina was born August 11, 1918, in rural Alton, the daughter of John and Tillie (Van Es) Blom. She was raised at Newkirk, where she graduated from high school.

On February 16, 1938, she married John Lyftogt in Newkirk. They farmed near Newkirk for many years. In 1983, they moved into Orange City. Mr. Lyftogt passed away December 20, 1997, in Orange City.

In late 1998, Mrs. Lyftogt became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. Since August of this year, she has resided at the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City.

She was a homemaker and had been employed as a nurses' aid at Handicap Village (now Village Northwest) in Sheldon, Pleasant Acres in Hull, and Hope Haven in Rock Valley.

Mrs. Lyftogt was currently a member of the First Reformed Church, where she belonged to the Mary-Martha Circle. For many years, she had been a member of the Newkirk Reformed Church.

Anna enjoyed music, both singing and playing the organ. She sang with the Farm Bureau Chorus for several years. She was also involved in the Foster Grandparents program at Hope Haven.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Bennett and Carolyn Lyftogt, of South Haven, Minnesota; Thelma and Barry Parks, of Springfield, Missouri; Jay and Ruth Lyftogt, of Orange City; and Mark and Vicki Lyftogt, of Exeter, California; ten grandchildren, Debra, and her husband, Tim Boylan, of Houston, Texas; Michael Lyftogt, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Tom Parks, and his wife, Kym, of Paris, Missouri; Tammy, and her husband, Tom Harrill, of Springfield, Missouri; Jason Lyftogt and Stacey Lyftogt, both of Ames; Kayla Lyftogt, of Orange City; and Melissa Lyftogt, Caleb Lyftogt, and Sarah Lyftogt, all of Exeter, California; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Edna Roggen, of Bella Vista, Arkansas.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a brother, Peter Blom; and a sister, Alice Blom.

Memorials may be directed to Foster Grandparents at Hope Haven.
