FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR MYRON W. SMITH

COLERAINE, April 16, - The funeral of Myron Walter Smith, age 79, father of C.V. Smith of Release, about 18 miles north of here, who died Thursday, was held from the Presbyterian church yesterday afternoon, Rev. Phillip A Schwartz officiating.
Mr. Smith was a Civil War veteran having served as corporal under General Sibley in the First Minnesota Mounted Rangers in Company B. He was one of the defenders of new Ulm at the time of the Indian outbreak in 1982. He was honorably discharged in 1861.
Born in Potsdam, St. Lawrence County, New York, he came to Minnesota in 1856. He was married at St. Peter, Minnesota, to Miss Frances Cottingham in 1861. Eight children attended the funeral.
Interment was at Lake View cemetery where military honors were accorded him by Spanish-American war veterans: George McWalters, George Meyers and James McNeil, under orders of George Kohrt, former first lieutenant of M. Company, M.N.G.
Pallbearers were: Fred Hooper, James Remington, James McNeil, Gus Anderson, Ed Norgaard and Homer Stevens.
