Ludowici-Gil Simmons, 60, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2011 at his residence after a long illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Long County and a member of Ludowici Church of God. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his father, J.A. Simmons Sr.; two brothers, Bobby Simmons Sr. and Wayne Simmons.
Survivors are his wife of 25 years, Barbara Simmons of Ludowici; three sons, Stetson Wayne and wife Beverly Simmons of Ludowici; Brett Paul Simmons of Ludowici and Herman and wife Lori Oglesbee Jr. of Ludowici; two daughters Denice O'Neal of Hinesville and Shannon and husband James Darling of Ludowici; nine grandchildren, Payton Rae Simmons, Madelynn Grace Simmons, Hagan Goode, Reed Goode, Vincent Morris, Tamar Payne, Jessica Oglesbee, Alex Synder and Daniel Synder; his mother, Mary Gertrude Middleton Simmons of Ludowici; one brother, J.A. Simmons Jr. of Ludowici; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Sunday, June 5, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. at Howard Jones Nobles Funeral Home Chapel with Brother David Simmons and Reverend Irvin Poole officiating.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 5, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at Concord Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Dale Simmons, Bobby Simmons Jr., Tyler Deen, Kale Simmons, Ron Webb Jr., and Clay McCarn.
