Burl died Monday at Samaritan Albany General Hospital.
He was born in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, the son of Harlan and Helen (Mersdorf) Eastman. He graduated from Scio High School in 1956. He entered the Army in 1958. Upon his discharge, he returned to Scio.
Burl married Josephine "Jo" Fusco on June 21, 1961, in London, England. They renewed their vows at the Scio Catholic Church in 1965.
He worked both at SWF in Albany and farmed for 17 years. He then farmed full time until his retirement in 2004. He was named Norpac Foods' 2003 Grower of the Year. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and taking his daughters camping.
Burl is survived by wife Jo Eastman of Scio; daughters Corrina Eastman of Scio and Christine Eastman of Las Vegas; three grandchildren; three foster grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brother Bob Eastman of Battle Ground, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Betty Eastman and brother Byron Eastman.
A funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Scio Christian Church, 38955 N.W. Second Ave.
