American Folk Figure. Served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He enlisted in January 1942 becoming a ground marine first and later to an officer in training. In 1944 he became an air cadet. He had 360.6 hours of flight time, 61.8 on Avengers alone. He was on board the FT-81 which was part of the infamous Flight 19 planes that disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle.
