Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sauk Rapids for Leo H. Jackels, age 92, who died Tuesday at the St. Cloud Hospital surrounded by his family. Rev. Ronald Weyrens will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends and relatives may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to the services Friday at the church. Secular Franciscan Order will pray at 6:00 p.m., followed by parish prayers at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Leo was born Aug. 19, 1918 in Duelm to Matt & Johanna (Maybury) Jackels. He married Alvina Obremski on June 7, 1943 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Gilman. Leo farmed in Benton County until his retirement. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Secular Franciscan Order. Survivors include his wife, Alvina of Sauk Rapids; daughters and son, Gloria Kloskin of St. Cloud, Arthur (Jan) Jackels of St. Cloud, Margi (Joe) Knettel of St. Stephen, Ruthie Goulet of St. Cloud, Patricia (Paul) Spiczka of Sauk Rapids, and Susan (Duane) Graczyk of St. Cloud; sister, Luella Latterell of Northome; 24 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents; son, David; an infant daughter; son-in-law, Robert Kloskin; daughter-in-law, Angela Jackels; brothers, Bernard "Barney", John, George, Henry, Albert, and Wilfred Jackels; sisters, Mary Knier/Wenner, Alma Vizenor, and Loretta Herbst; and 2 infant grandsons.
