Clara B. Orton Peterson Smith, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great-grandmother, sister and friend, age 89, returned to our Father in Heaven Sunday, May 29, 2011 in Lehi, UT.

She was born on Mother's Day, May 14, 1922 in Henderson, Utah, to Grover Cleveland and Clara Emma (Beebe) Orton, the 9th of 13 children. Clara graduated from Lehi High School in 1940. She was active in sports and school activities.

She married Bert Elton Peterson, of Lehi, UT on June 29, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. She had four children: Judy (Eldon) Armistead, of Lakewood, CO, Lana (Don) Harmon, of Lander, WY, Robert (deceased) (Opal) Peterson, of Lehi, and Barry (Vicki) Peterson, of Lehi. She has 16 grandchildren (8 boys & 8 girls), 54 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

After Bert's death, Clara married Glenn Earl Smith, of Lehi, and enjoyed 14 years of marriage and a loving association with his children and grandchildren. Glenn passed in 1996.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully in Relief Society, Sunday School, Young Women's, Primary and as a visiting teacher all her life.

She was a secretary at Camp Williams and was employed at Broadbent's in Lehi for many years where she enjoyed associating with her coworkers and the public.

Clara and Bert were always proud of being on the original Lehi Dance Set Committee. She enjoyed being a member of the all the lady's clubs.

Clara's greatest joy was her family and many lifelong friends.

She is survived by two sisters: Julia Wagner, of Penn Valley, CA, and Sarah (Fred) Baird, of Provo, UT.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 10 siblings; two husbands; and son, Robert.

Funeral services will be held Sat., June 4, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lehi 6th Ward, 200 S. 200 W. Family and friends may call Friday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. at the church and one hour prior on Sat. morning at the church.

Interment, Lehi City Cemetery.
