Interment: Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Moore Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, Bettye's family respectfully suggests that memorials be made to a charity of choice or to Fielder Road Baptist Church.

Bettye was born in Port Arthur on Aug. 11, 1928, to Marzee and John Ludwig. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School and earned a B.A degree in bacteriology and chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. She married Glenn E. Hamman of Port Arthur, who also attended UT-Austin. The couple made their home in Dallas, where their two wonderful children were born. Bettye was a substitute teacher during the children's school years, when she went to work at Dean Memorial Learning Center, teaching dyslexic children and took a two-year course at Scottish Rite Hospital to earn a certificate of academic learning. She taught Sunday school at their church for 12 years. She and Glenn were sent to Seattle, Wash., by Vought Co. for two years to work, and then to Long Beach, Calif., for many years. After they moved back to Texas, they chose Arlington as their home and rejoined friends of old there. They attended First Baptist Church of Dallas before they chose to attend Fielder Road Baptist Church in Arlington. Bettye became very active in the Early Bird Sunday School Class. She also was in Bible Study Fellowship for seven years and made many more new friends. She was a member of The First Thursday Bridge Club for about 40 years and was a member of Vought Engineers Wives Club. She loved and was blessed by all her friends and her family.
