He married Myrtle Holbrook on 23 December 1923 at Olney, Texas. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survived by his wife; three daughters - Mary Burrhus of Edna, June Dooley of Sugar Land, Beth Moss of Olney; two sons - Bill Gilmore of Clarksville, AR and James Gilmore of Boyd; 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
