Lt. Richard J. Carroll, 28 years old, a pursuit pilot, was reported missing in action in northwest Africa since Dec. 30, in a telegram received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William P. Carroll of 7222 Luella avenue, from the war department. Lt. Carroll was graduated from the University of notre Dame in 1937.

Lt. Richard J. Carroll, son of Mr. and Mrs. William P. Carroll, 7222 Luella av., who was reported missing in action nearly two years ago, was killed Jan 14, 1943, when the Italian submarine in which he was a prisoner was destroyed. Lt. Carroll was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. A memorial mass will be celebrated Jan 13 at St. Phillip Nerl Church.
