Minerva was the oldest daughter of Amos Crum and his first wife, Anna (maiden name unknown). It is inferred that her mother died, as Amos married a second time to Rebecca (Strouse) 8 October 1833, Franklin County, Ohio. Minerva had 1 full sister and 3 full brothers. She had seven half siblings. It is thought that Minerva had a twin sister, Elizabeth who married William Crist. Her father moved his family to Hancock County, Ohio sometime after his second marriage, thus all of his children by his first wife were born in Franklin County. Documentation includes: a deed in Franklin County dated 6 January 1829, 1830 Madison township, Franklin County, Ohio census, and various county histories, i.e.
Twentieth Century History of Findlay and Hancock County Ohio, page 198 states: “The first settlement made in Eagle Township was in 1830 . . . and by John Decker. These pioneers were followed in 1831 by . . . Amos Crum and others. Most of these first settlers came from Fairfield and Franklin Counties.”

Brown’s History of Hancock County, Ohio, 1886, Warner, Beers and Company: “About the same time that the Powells came to the township (Eagle 1833), Jacob Sharp, Henry Keel & Amos Crum settled here . . . Amos and Rebecca Crum settled in Section 13 . . . in 1833; he died upon the home farm and his widow died in Allen County Ohio. In 1845 “Clements” post office was established at his house, and Mr. Crum was postmaster until his death, being succeeded by his widow. One of his sons is a business man of Dunkirk, Hardin County. In 1834 the first schoolhouse in the township, a small log building, was put up near Eagle Creek. Amos Crum was one of the principal movers in getting this accomplished.”
