Born about 1833 near Leesburg, Southampton Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania; daughter of Harmon Hillsberry. Mary moved in 1853--with her father and siblings--to East Bend Township, Champaign County, Illinois, where her father purchased land in 1853 and 1855.

Mary "Hilberry" and Louis "Kasdorf" were married on 20 March 1860 in Champaign County, Illinois. Later that year, they were enumerated in the county in Champaign, and sometime afterward moved to Urbana.
