Harold R. Speare, the son of John and Loretta (Dishart) Speare was born on November 12, 1922 in Lyleton, Manitoba, Canada. At a young age, he moved with his parents and siblings to the Kenmare, ND area where he was reared and educated. At the age of 18, Harold moved to the Grafton State School and would make this his home for the next 30 years. He lived for a time at the Edmore Rest Home and later moved to Devils Lake. In September of 1999, Harold moved into the Lake Region Group Home at 1201 4th Avenue. Harold was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Harold treasured the friendships he made where ever he went. He always looked forward to an outing at the casino with Momma Mary and his friends, and whenever he was lucky enough to have a winning lottery ticket, he would joke about the "chicken feed" he had won, and looked in the mail daily for this as well. One of the highlights of Harold's life was his 80th birthday present and party. Harold, his friend David and support staff went to Las Vegas. That trip held a life time of good memories, good times and the blessing of dear friends. Harold's strong faith sustained him through all his sufferings and blessings from God. The bonds of love and friendship, Harold had for his brother, Billy and family was constant and steadfast. We shall all truly miss the sparkle in his eyes and his warm smile of love and kindness. May he rest in peace.

Harold is survived by his brother, William "Billy" Speare of Rugby, ND, nephews: Donald Speare and his wife, Cindy David Speare and his wife, Elaine Barry Speare and his wife, Diane Lorry Speare and his wife, Adriana. Numerous grand nieces and grand nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leo Speare; sisters, Mary Isabella Speare and Katherine Wherley.
