BEVERLY - Leo S. Cunningham, 84, of Beverly, Ohio, died Friday (April 1, 2011) at Marietta Memorial Hospital. Leo was born July 14, 1926 to Harry R. and Verna Smith Cunningham.

After graduating from Waterford High School in 1944 he served in the U.S. Army in World War II. While serving in Italy he was shipped through the Panama Canal to Japan where he served as a medical technician in the 118 Station Hospital. He was discharged honorably in 1946. Following his military service he worked for 40 years at B.F. Goodrich, retiring in 1988. Leo was a past member of the Waterford United Methodist Church, 65 year member of the Waterford Grange #231 and a life member of the International Chemical workers Union #343.

On June 5, 1948, he married Rita Faye Motz who preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 2009. In addition to his wife, Leo was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Leroy Cunningham in 1939; and a brother in law, Harry Motz. He is survived by a sister in law, Mary Ruth Motz; and a niece, Rita Jill Motz, both of McConnelsville.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday (April 4) at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly with the Rev. Karl Kesselring officiating. Burial will be in Beverly Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour before the service on Monday.
