Ray was born on the homestead on Dairy Hill Road on October 22, 1929, a son of the late Harvey and Grace (Pardee) Ackley. He received his education in local country schools and was united in marriage with the former Patricia Miller. Mrs. Ackley preceded him in death in 1978. Until his retirement, Ray operated the family farm in Norway that was established by his grandparents. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed the time he spent hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his son, Jack Ackley and his wife, Lisa, of Norway; two daughters, Grace Ackley of Mohawk and Nancy Agne and her husband, Ross, Jr. of Schuyler; two grandchildren, Antonio Canales of FL and Rachel Ray Agne of Schuyler; one sister, Evelyn Chmielewski of Salisbury Center; one brother, Harold Ackley, a resident of Folts Homes, Herkimer; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a sister, Edith Humphrey and a brother, Arthur.
Interment will follow in Salisbury Rural Cemetery.
