Mr. Burgess was a 1969 graduate of Midview High School in Grafton, Ohio.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years, working as a recruiter and in communication systems. He was a self-employed golf pro and made golf clubs at the time of his death.
He was a member of Abbe Road Baptist Church in Elyria.
Mr. Burgess is survived by one daughter, Natalie Burgess of Laramie; son, Brent Burgess of Cheyenne; sister, Eva Jean Cillo of Jersey Shore, Pa.; three brothers, Lloyd Burgess of Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., James Burgess of Ocala, Fla., and Billy Burgess of Trenton, Ga.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dossie and Madress Burgess; and one brother, Bobby Joe Burgess.
