Glen R. Austin, 89, formerly of Somerset, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Stanford.
Glen was born Sunday, December 5, 1920 in the New Salem area of Lincoln County to the late Henry Jason and Emma Pearl Walls Austin.
He was a graduate of the old McKinney School, a retired supervisor with Diamond Chains in IN. A US Army Air Corp veteran of WWII, attended Highland Methodist Church and was a member of New Salem Baptist Church.
Glen will be remembered for his love of basketball, fishing and most of all, his gift of making and repairing clocks.
He is preceded in death by his parents;
his loving wife, Betty Louise Butt Austin;
an infant daughter, Glenda Taylor Austin;
five brothers, Jason, Jr., Arnold, Orville, Eugene and Donald Austin;
and two sisters, Betty Faye Sims and Alma McWhorter.
He is survived by his brother, Kenneth Austin and his wife, Donna of New Salem;
his sisters, Edith Johnson and her husband, Orville of New Salem and Shirley Maples and her husband, Freeman of Hustonville;
his sister-in-laws, Dorothy Austin of Danville, Violet James and Sandra Austin, both of Stanford, Myrtle Austin of New Salem and Geraldine Austin of Indiana;
and several nieces and nephews.
An appreciation of Life service will be 12 noon Saturday, November 6th at Highland United Methodist Church by Rev. Don Scilley and Bro. Jared Moore.
Burial will follow in Highland Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by Caswell-Saufley Post #18.
Fox Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
